Volunteer Opportunities

HPCAR members are invited to participate in the committees and project teams of the Hospice & Palliative Care Association of the Rockies...the only
trade association representing both the hospice and palliative care industry in Colorado and Wyoming.

In an effort to make the volunteer efforts of our members as valuable, effective and fulfilling as possible, the HPCAR committees will coordinate and directthe work of the association's project teams. Our committees will research issues, develop positions, and carry out the work of HPCAR. Your hospice or palliative care organization must be a current member of the association in order to participate in a committee.

Committee membership may include members of the board of directors as well as non-board members. Each standing committee shall meet as frequently as determined necessary by each committee and make regular reports to the full board of directors as needed. All committee recommendations are subject to approval by the board. Committee members are identified by board members and/or staff and invited to serve by the committee chairperson. Each committee shall consist of at least three members.

There shall be six standing committees of the board of directors:

  • Executive Committee: The Executive Committee of the board of directors shall consist of the elected officers as described in the HPCAR bylaws. The Executive Committee shall have all of the power and authority of the board of directors between meetings of the board, except as prohibited by the Act.
  • Education Committee: The Education Committee will focus on statewide hospice service and palliative care education for health care professionals.
  • Finance Committee: The Finance Committee will be chaired by the Treasurer and focus on oversight of all of the corporation’s financial affairs and investments.
  • Membership Service & Outreach Committee
  • Nominating Committee: The Nominating Committee will be chaired by the Vice President and focus on developing a list of candidates for board membership aligned with the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Public Policy Committee: The Public Policy Committee will focus on development of legislative and regulatory strategies impacting statewide hospice services and palliative care.
  • Quality/Standards Committee: The Quality/Standards Committee will focus on development of statewide plans and initiatives for promoting consistency and quality in hospice services and palliative care.

Other committees may be authorized by a majority vote of the board of directors. Subcommittees and task forces may be appointed from time to time by the board of directors.
